December 31, 2010 / January 1, 2011 Location: Ye Kendall Inn, Boerne TX., Owner/Operator Ed McClure, Professional Chaine member -- Maitre de Table Restaurateur What a way to start a new year. . . bring it in Chaine style. On New Year's eve, several of us assembled at Ye Kendall Inn in Boerne for their/our dinner/dance holiday Celebration. Vivian and I, including most of the San Antonio Chaine members have visited Ye Kendall Inn many times in the past, and since this establishment has been putting forth extra effort in welcoming Chaine members, we knew we were going to have a great time. For those of you who may not
know, Ed is a Professional Chaine member, and he has pulled out all
stops in making our upcoming Mondial dinner event a great success on the
15th of this month..
Ok, back to the dinner.Ok, back to the dinner. Kendall Inn is both a Texas and a national landmark, and has given shelter to many famous people including Jefferson Davis, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Robert E. Lee. The History of Ye Kendall Inn begins April 23 1859 when John James sold the land to Erastus and Sarah Reed for only $200. The Reeds built the center section of the Inn as their home bringing the Southern Colonial style of architecture to the Texas Hill Country. As there were no hotels for the travelers in these early days, the few homeowners of the town shared their spare rooms. The Reeds began the hotel tradition by renting out their spare rooms in the Old Reed House. The grounds around the house served as a wagon yard for ranchers who penned their cattle in what is now the cities main plaza, awaiting other cattle Fourteen bailliage members, one spouse, and one sweetheart, for a total of 16 individuals attended this end-of-the-year blow-out grand celebration. I will let the photos tell the rest of the story: Photos are arranged in order of arrival at the front door of Ye Kendall Inn. |
